High Places
Mountains hold a fascination for me and from an early age I had a yearning to climb them, though I never developed the skills to rock climb. Never the less, I have enjoyed these often remote elevated places, their views, sometimes solitude and always the challenge they present in travelling to them. Sometimes by rail or bus, but most times by hard slogging.
A trip on the Schinegge Platte railway from Grindlewald in Switzerland, lets you see some amazing views of the surrounding mountains including the Jungfrau.
Also accessed from Interlaken, the Grindlewald railway, links with a cable car with views like this looking into the Wetterhorn glacier (below).
Not as high as many European peaks, but the beauty of the mountains of the Bogong High Plains and surrounds is majestic. This photo shows Mt.Feathertop looking from the high plains.
Cradle Mountain - Lake St.Clair National Park in Tasmania is a wonderful place, where extremes of weather can occur in any season. I was fortunate to walk the overland trail in Summer of 1964. More details of this trip are described in the PDF document at the side.
A nostalgic visit to Cradle Mountain in 2018 showed the same brilliant scenery, but oh so busy with tourists.
